The singer from the K-pop group Blackpink creates a frenzy wherever she goes. Cannes was no exception. This Thursday, April 23, her fans, mostly young people from Generations Z and Y, were practically in a trance near the Palais des Festivals, where their idol was expected for the opening ceremony of the ninth edition of the Canneseries festival.
> Because Jisoo isn’t just a singer with millions of albums sold, but also a young actress with a promising career. She was recently seen in Boyfriend on Demand, a hit K-drama on Netflix. And her rise in the world of film and television is only just beginning. It is precisely for this reason that Madame Figaro chose to reward her by presenting her with the Madame Figaro Rising Star Award at the opening of the Cannes International Series Festival. The 31-year-old, visibly moved, received her award on the stage of the Lumière Auditorium at the Palais des Festivals from Richard Gianorio, Deputy Editor of Madame Figaro . > Madame Figaro: You received the prestigious Madame Figaro Rising Star Award at the Canneseries Festival. What did you feel when you went on stage?
> Jisoo: I was deeply grateful to receive this award. In fact, I couldn’t believe it when I found out I was going to be honored. I really wasn’t expecting it. The name of the award, “Rising Star,” is very evocative. It’s a title that gives strength, and I think it will help me too, even in my future choices. It was also an unforgettable moment for all the fans who have supported me so far.
> How does it feel to receive this first prize in France, especially in Cannes, a place of excellence for cinema and television series?
> This is my first time in Cannes. When I arrived, the weather was beautiful and there was a great atmosphere, which immediately put me in a good mood as I was getting ready to walk the pink carpet . It’s very symbolic for me to be here; it means a lot to me.
> The public discovered you as a singer in the K-pop group Blackpink. You recently launched your acting career. Did you always dream of becoming an actress?
> Yes, I was in my high school’s drama club in addition to the drama classes I was taking. It was a childhood dream, just like becoming a singer. I was able to fulfill both of them, for which I am very grateful. I want to hold onto that feeling of gratitude.
> You are a singer, actress, and fashion icon. Do you put a lot of pressure on yourself to excel in all these areas?
> No, I don’t put a lot of pressure on myself. I mainly want to push myself further, so I do my best every time. Physically, I’m very strong; I have a lot of stamina. I rarely feel tired, which allows me to enjoy every moment.
> How did you prepare for the role of Mi-rae, a funny, romantic and very endearing young woman, in the Netflix series Boyfriend on Demand ?
> When I read the script, I quickly realized I had a lot in common with Mi-rae. I put myself in her shoes as if she were a friend telling me about her stories and problems. I really tried to understand her, her doubts, her fears, and her reactions, to put myself in her shoes.
